Chilly Gonzales and Obia le Chef team up for an unexpected EP
An internationally acclaimed pianist and composer—known as much for his *Solo Piano* trilogy as for his collaborations with Daft Punk, Feist, and Drake—Chilly Gonzales continues his exploration of rap and contemporary music. Following his session for Grünt and his *Rap de Chambre* project presented at the 2025 Hyper Weekend Festival, he joins forces with Montreal rapper Obia le Chef. A legend of Quebec rap of Haitian descent, Obia is renowned for his razor-sharp punchlines in *Rap Contenders* battles and his notable collaborations with artists such as Sniper, Kaytranada, Caballero & JeanJass, Rowjay, and High Klassified.
After meeting at a concert of Gonzales’s in Canada last April, the two artists headed straight to the studio to record the project’s first track. Featuring contributions from beatmakers Cotola and Tony Toxik, the EP balances the elegance of classical music with the energy of contemporary rap. « Larry David et Tony Soprano » encapsulates the spirit of the project, while « Carnavoile » ventures into piano-and-vocals territory with *bouyon* influences—a vibrant tribute to Caribbean culture.
